Charity Spotlight: Children’s Smile Center

For some low-income families, dental care is out of reach financially.

Fortunately, Children’s Smile Center offers to help ease concerns of families in six southwest Missouri counties. In other words, talk about a perfect fit for the PGA Korn Ferry Tour’s Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper.

The PCCC has long benefitted Ozarks children’s charities in its 30-year history, and her Children’s Smile Center is going the extra mile.

“The Price Cutter Charity Championship provides our charity the opportunity to raise much-needed funds to provide dental care to low-income children,” said Jackie Barger, Executive Director of Children’s Smile Center. “Our participation in the PCCC gives our donors and friends many options to participate in a first-class professional sporting event while at the same time being a voice of compassion for children in need of dental care.”

Children’s Smile Center has offices in Ozark, Aurora and Branson West and serves children in six counties – Barry, Christian, Dade, Lawrence, Stone and Taney.

Understand, 60 to 70 percent of kids in small towns rely on Medicaid. However, only 10 percent of Missouri dentists accept Medicaid.

In 2019, Children’s Smile Center provided care for 6,350 children and pregnant women in 13, 147 dental visits. Additionally, CSC completed 10,000 dental screenings at area schools and took 240 children to local surgery centers for more extensive dental care needs under general anesthesia.

That’s why Children’s Smile Center, along with all other PCCC charities, is selling $25 TLC Properties Charity Sweepstakes tickets – with the grand prizes being a 2020 Toyota Tundra or $10,000.

“Our involvement with the PCCC puts us in contact with dozens of other nonprofit organizations,” Barger said. “These contacts provide a wealth of encouragement and networking in learning best practices, and in collaboration for improving health outcomes for at-risk youth.”

The non-profit also is hosting the Children’s Smile Center Poker Run Golf Classic on Sept. 25 at Silo Ridge Gold & Country Club in Bolivar. Teams are still available.

“Purchase a sweepstakes ticket, bid on an auction, play in a pro-am … and when you do, you’re making a difference in the lives of thousands of young people in the Ozarks,” Barger said.
