Charity Spotlight: CASA of Southwest Missouri

When folks wonder who is doing the heavy lifting in the community, it’s pretty clear that CASA of Southwest Missouri is among the many.

The organization’s acronym stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children. Its mission? CASA recruits, trains and supports community volunteers who assist the court in protecting the best interests of abused and neglected children.

In other words, CASA is a perfect fit for the PGA Korn Ferry Tour’s Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper, a major fundraiser for Ozarks children’s charities.

Multi-ethnic family. Latin and African descent teenage girls and their mom in home setting. Single mom and group looks at camera as they talk together in living room. Girl at left is adopted or a foster child. Mixed race, blended families.

Just listen to CASA’s executive director explain the difference your support can make.

“Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) are often the only consistent person there for a child who is in the foster care system,” said Laura Farmer, Executive Director of CASA of Southwest Missouri. “When a child has a CASA assigned to their case, the child is more likely to do better in school, have more stability in their foster home and, ultimately, exit the foster care system more quickly due to the consistency and advocacy that a CASA provides.”

It’s important to know that CASA of Southwest Missouri is a volunteer organization. So any support, especially through the PCCC, is enormous.

“The PCCC has enabled us to raise essential funds to grow our program and recruit more volunteers than ever, which means that we are now serving even more foster children,” Farmer said. “We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with PCCC and their commitment to the children in our community.”
