Charity Spotlight: A Sporting Chance

The sight of ball fields full of athletes young and old will truly be meaningful to Dick Jones this summer.

You see, he runs A Sporting Chance, which offers athletic competitions. Last year, of course, everything got put on hold because of the global pandemic.

“We are finally getting to have our programs again,” Jones said. “It has been a year since we were able to have any programs due to Covid-19. We are excited to get back to work and let our Athletes have fun again.”

A Sporting Chance has long been part of the PGA Korn Ferry Tour’s Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper, which this year will benefit nearly 50 Ozarks children’s charities. The tournament has gifted nearly $17.4 million since 1990.

A Sporting Chance gives many kids a chance.

Which makes A Sporting Chance a great fit. After all, it operates with this mission statement: Our Mission is to give A Sporting Chance to any person with any type of disability — youth who are disadvantaged, abused & neglected children, at-risk teenagers, and senior citizens by developing and providing amateur sports training, competition, and recreational programs.

It’s no wonder, then, that Jones raves about the community’s support of the PCCC.

“Being involved in the PCCC has been very good for A Sporting Chance. The fact that we are one of the Charities for this event helps get our name out so the public knows what we do for the Community,” Jones said.

And look at the impact:

“The funding we receive from the golf tournament helps provide 48 weeks of sports & recreation programs annually for over 2,000 athletes,” Jones said. “Approximately 24% of our entire budget is allocated to us through the PCCC. Needless to say, if we did not get this funding, programs would suffer and might not even happen.”
