For the past several years, Music Therapy of the Ozarks has put together the Rockin’ Roll Bike & Music Festival – which consists of cyclists of any skill riding long and short distances and then enjoying dinner and a concert after.
It’s been a big hit, and it’s back again this year, set for Saturday, October 9 at The Riff in southwest Springfield. In other words, 2021 is shaping up to a big year for Music Therapy of the Ozarks, which is among the nearly 50 Ozarks children’s charities of the PGA Korn Ferry Tour’s Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper.
“We are already busy with plans for the Rockin’ Roll Bike and Music Festival that will be one of the events of the PCCC and gearing up to sell a record number of Sweepstakes Championship Raffle tickets this year!,” said Julie Cassity, Executive Director of the Music Therapy of the Ozarks. “We are hoping for this year to be the best yet, as one of our major fundraisers was canceled this year due to COVID 19. We participated in Give Ozarks and are always amazed with the generosity of our community!”
Music Therapy is doing incredible work, all with this mission statement: To provide the healing power of music throughout the lifespan by offering funding assistance and building community awareness. The organization was founded in 2014 by Cassity, an Instructor of Music Therapy at Drury University and Executive Director of the Center for Music Therapy and Wellness, and on-campus music therapy clinic located at Springfield-based Drury University. She saw it as a way to help special needs kids and many others, such as folks in skilled nursing homes. More on that in a second.
Just know that your support through the Rockin’ Roll Bike & Music Festival – and purchasing a $25 ticket through the TLC Properties Charity Sweepstakes program (grand prizes are a 2021 Toyota Tundra & $10,000) – can make a difference.
The bike ride this year consists of four distances: 5 miles, 26 miles and 40 miles, as well as a 62 -mile gravel and 62-mile road rides. The rides will include rest stops featuring live local bands, snacks and refreshments. Visit bikeandmusicfest.org to register and for more details.
The PCCC has helped the organization in numerous ways: “It has given us great exposure and networking opportunities with other non-profit leaders, and has been an opportunity to raise more money than we would have had otherwise,” Cassity said. “Participating in the selling of raffle tickets has allowed us to raise $10,000 over the past two years, and we are hoping to break that record this year!
“The Rockin’ Roll Bike and Music Festival, hosted in conjunction with the PCCC, has been very successful and we have definitely valued the support of the PCCC staff with their assistance at this event.” Music Therapy of the Ozarks has been honored to have provided over 2,500 music therapy encounters to the community. Scholarships and funding for programming in 2019 totaled over $34,000, much of which was raised through our partnership with the PCCC.
