Ask the director of the Champion Athletes of the Ozarks about the importance of the PGA Korn Ferry Tour’s Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper and you may be surprised.
Certainly, the check distribution at the annual Celebration of Sharing is nice. But the tournament itself gives members of the Champion Athletes of the Ozarks a chance to continue to grow.
The charity’s mission is straightforward: build self-esteem, self-confidence and everyday life skills, therefore enhancing the lives of children and adults with disabilities through education, sports competition and new opportunities.
“The PCCC builds skills for each of our individuals. We are counting, packing and inventorying snacks. We are initiating and maintaining conversations with new people. We are learning to completes tasks and follow directions,” said Susan Miles, Executive Director. “We are learning job skills. We are learning skills that will help us to be more independent and successful.”
She went on. “In addition to the funds The Price Cutter is a great opportunity for our individuals to use their life skills. We are able to reinforce work skills and strengthen social skills,” Miles said. “We are meeting new volunteers and caddies. We have met individuals form several different states and even different countries.”
Overall, they’re learning job skills – “skills that will help us to be more independent and successful,” Miles added.
“The Price Cutter Tournament is an important part of Champion Athletes of the Ozarks. Our individuals look forward to this event each year,” Miles said. “We love working with all of the volunteers and caddies, we have met people from many different states and countries.”
