For CASA of Southwest Missouri, each year is important. But the year 2021 may be more so than any of the previous ones.
The non-profit, Court Appointed Special Advocates of Southwest Missouri, is determined to make sure every child in the Ozarks who has experienced abuse or neglect has a CASA volunteer who will advocate for their needs and best interests. But …
“Despite our substantial growth in recruiting and training volunteers, there has been a significant increase in the number of children entering foster care this past year,” said Julie Good, Development Director for CASA of Southwest Missouri. “Currently, there are at least 36 children who enter the foster care system each month. Because of this, we are only serving 35 percent of our local foster children. With the support we receive from the Price Cutter Charity Golf Tournament and members of our community, we can do so much more.”
CASA’s mission is clear: It’s a non-profit out to recruit, train and support community volunteers who assist the court in protecting the best interests of abused and neglected children in Southwest Missouri.
“The PCCC has helped CASA not only raise funds but increase the awareness of our organization,” Good said. “During the event, CASA sponsors the Clubhouse Hospitality and has our logo on the water coolers throughout the golf course. We have also been able to speak at some of the associated events. All of these opportunities are important to fulfilling our mission.”
It’s pretty incredible with the way CASA maximizes its funding: by paying professional staff who have child welfare education and experience to recruit, train and support CASA volunteers, who provide direct services to children in foster care.
“Because of this, the donations we receive are maximized to their full capacity,” Good said. “One Advocate Supervisor can carry a caseload of 30 to 35 CASA volunteers, who then serve approximately 75 children. This means that the average salary for a Advocate Supervisor is maximized to a value of $229,556 when we include the services provided by our CASA volunteers. With the support we receive from the PCCC, we can recruit and train more volunteers to serve more children.”
