Charity Spotlight: Special Olympics Missouri

One of the cool things about Special Olympics Missouri is that it has a footprint in southwest Missouri, not just around its offices in Jefferson City.

That’s enabled the organization to reach thousands of Ozarks kids and adults, with a nice boost from the PGA Korn Ferry Tour’s Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper.

“We do have programs in Springfield and our athletes do participate in basketball, bowling, softball, aquatics, bocce, golf, volleyball, tennis and soccer,” said Robin Anderson, Executive Director of Special Olympics Missouri. “We have only 1,700 athletes in the Southwest area with 167 in the Springfield agency. PCCC gives us the ability to provide opportunities for training and competition for our athletes.”

Special Olympics Missouri has a straightforward mission: to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-style sport for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with families, other Special Olympics athletes and community.

“Support from the PCCC helps us provide year-long training and competition four our 1,700-plus athletes in the southwest area,” Anderson said. “It helps us with the cost of bowling competitions, medals, equipment and supplies.”
