Charity Spotlight: Ronald McDonald House

More than 14,400 families. That’s right — 14,400!

That’s the number of families assisted by the Ronald McDonald House of the Ozarks, which has been on board all 32 years of the PGA Korn Ferry Tour’s Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ozarks provides a “home-away-from-home” for families of seriously ill and injured children. It has locations near Cox South Hospital and within Mercy Kids, helping up to 24 families every night.

“The funds we receive through the PCCC are instrumental in underwriting the day-to-day needs of the Houses, keeping families together and close to the care and resources they need,” President & CEO Bonnie Keller said. “Our Ronald McDonald Houses help families with the sickest children, traveling the farthest from home for medical treatment.”

One of the recent families who received assistance was The Wood Family of Branson, whose son, David, was diagnosed with Haemophilus Influenza Meningitis, a bacterial infection that had traveled from his spinal cord to his brain. He had experienced hallucinations, behavorial changes and forgot tasks and the ability to recognize his parents.

RMH helped them for three weeks.

“We are so thankful that, out of all the things we had on our minds during this time, we never had to worry about how we were going to eat, shower or do laundry,” The Wood Family said. “We were able to devote all of our time to our son and helping him get better.”

In the past six years, Springfield’s two Ronald McDonald Houses have benefited from two grants through the PCCC which have underwritten washers and dryers, as well as a commercial refrigerator for the Ronald McDonald House families.

In other words …

“Thanks to the generosity of the PCCC, families of sick children have had a place of comfort and care in Springfield for 32 years,” Keller said.
