Mark your calendars — a free country music concert is headed to Springfield on Saturday, Aug. 15 thanks to Price Cutter Supermarkets and Kretschmar.
Up-and-coming country stars SmithField along with Georgia native Alex Hall will perform free night-time shows following the Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper, Tournament Director Jerald Andrews announced on Friday. The news follows several weeks of talks with Price Cutter Supermarkets and Kretschmar, known for premium deli meats and Wisconsin cheeses.
The two-hour party begins at 8 p.m. in the parking lot of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, 3861 E. Stan Musial Drive. Plenty of parking is available in an adjacent field next to Highland Springs Country Club. Beer and concessions will be available for purchase.
“We are delighted to deliver a free music concert for all of the Ozarks and invite everybody out – not only for Saturday night but all weekend as we play host to the Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper,” Andrews said. “The tournament has enjoyed a nice history of Saturday night concerts, and this brings the idea to life once again.”
The PCCC is the PGA Tour’s annual Web.com Tour stop, which this year is set for Aug. 13-16 at Highland Springs Country Club. This year marks the 26th annual championship, and fundraising for local children’s charities will easily surpass the $12 million mark. A year ago, the championship gifted a record $1 million-plus to charities.
SmithField, comprised of two talented and ambitious singer/songwriters from Texas, has taken Nashville by storm. They’ve proved that they belong in Music City with some of the best musical talent in the world. The duo’s is Jennifer and Trey, and their surnames make up their traveling name.
Alex Hall, raised in Gainesville, Ga., describes his music as country with a rockin’ edge, but like his musical influences – Elvis Presley, Jason Aldean and Johnny Cash – his music does not fit neatly into one category. He writes songs about life growing up in the South and the family his parents have raised him to love.
The Saturday concert will come hours after an event in which PCCC spectators could win $50,000. The Missouri Golf Association’s Closest to the Pin & Hole in One Contest is scheduled for roughly 4 p.m. Saturday, or after the pros finish. Whoever wins the finals of that event, with a hole in one, takes home the prize.
