Charity Spotlight: CHANCES of Stone County

Yes, the pandemic of the past year has been challenging for so many charities connected to the PGA Korn Ferry Tour’s Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper.

However, CHANCES of Stone County still found a way to have success, and looks toward 2021 for more milestones.

The pandemic was difficult for our group during the last year; however, we were able to return to onsite service in August,” said Executive Director Peggy Ackfeld. “A major event that CHANCES held was our Family Night to Shine, where our members were treated as Kings and Queens for the evening. We recently added a workshop to Club Daybreak and our members are learning to build birdhouses and other small wood projects that will be included in this year’s PCCC Auction along with items from our sewing studio.”

CHANCES of Stone County has been around for several years now and continues doing meaningful work, all with this mission: to serve Stone County’s developmentally disabled by providing inclusive services and support to promote purpose, independence, quality of life and valued community involvement.

Our most significant success since joining the PCCC is the addition of Club DayBreak, which focuses on providing weekly time for those who have graduated from high school to build relationships, have fun, and learn new skills,” Ackfeld said. “In 2018, CHANCES was awarded the Korn Ferry Tour’s Charity of the Year, and those funds combined with funds from the PCCC supplied us with what we needed to initiate these much-needed services.”

Ackfeld went on. “The PCCC’s funding helps CHANCES to continue providing a growing number of activities and services for the developmentally disabled and their families in Stone County,” she said. “Not only does PCCC help us partner with other non-profits in our area but it also allows us to spread our message to the community.”
