Mother Nature couldn’t slow the Central Bank/Central Trust-sponsored team in Monday’s Mercy Pro-Am and not many other teams could, either. Although, one almost nearly pulled the trick.

The foursome of Jon Swope, Jay Swope, Justin French and Steve Gassell fired a 58 to win an afternoon pro-am at Hickory Hills Country Club, doing so hours after rain forced officials to reschedule the morning round.

The SMC Packaging Group team of Mark McNay, Jeff Woods, Les Lyons and John Baughan also fired a 58 in the scramble format, but Central Bank/Central Trust won on a scorecard tiebreaker.

Central Bank/Central Trust, playing with pro Scott Harrington, fired 13 birdies, including six consecutive between Nos. 1-6. They were at 18 through the first six holes, two strokes better than SMC Packaging.

Third place belonged to Chris Gocal, Dave Globig, Dan O’Connor and Brett Drewitt. They fired a 61 as they played alongside pro Jeff Tucker.

The Mercy Pro-Am has been a longtime partner of the Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper, the PGA Tour’s annual Web.com Tour event in Springfield.

The tournament, set for Thursday to Sunday at Highland Springs Country club, has generated almost $12 million for local children’s charities – including a record $1 million last year alone.

The PCCC will announce a new date for the Mercy Pro-Am morning round as soon as it is finalized.
